Wardrobe Essentials: Cocktail or Statement Ring

Happy Birthday to me and to all the other April birthdays out there!

For quite a few years, I worked in the jewelry industry.  I’ve worked with fine jewelry (the “real” stuff) and high fashion jewelry (the “not real” stuff.)  I don’t discriminate when it comes to jewelry and am happy to wear EVERYTHING.  I don’t care if it costs $2 or $200.  I don’t care if it’s silver or gold or maybe even…BOTH (heaven forbid!)  If it’s jewelry, it’s an accessory and that makes it my friend.

What are the classic items that you can add to your wardrobe that will never go out of style?  What are timeless pieces that add style and class after fashion fades?  That’s right…it’s time to talk about another essential piece you should add to your wardrobe.  A cocktail or statement ring.

Some people think that the statement ring has to be some fancy ring full of diamonds or gems.  This is SO not true.  Most celebrities, who can afford the big diamond rings, actually wear high fashion jewelry just like you and me!  The point of a statement ring is not how much it cost but what kind of statement it makes.  This is something you wear as a total reflection of you.  My sister just bought a ring shaped like a jaguar.  It was a bold statement ring with rhinestones that will show off her personality.  When choosing a statement ring, make sure you choose something that speaks to you the minute you lay eyes on it.  Remember, when it comes to a  statement ring, the whole point is to go big or go home.

As always, I have some inspiration for you to enjoy.  Just click on the picture for more info if you see something you like!

Feeling abstract?

Feeling spiky?

Feeling colorful?

Ready to rock?

Feeling sparkly?

I just couldn’t resist this one!

One ring to rule them all?

Fabulous Friday

Shoes, shoes, shoes

Who out there loves shoes?  Besides me…because I think shoes are fabulous!  Don’t take them for granted because there are so many people out there who can’t even afford to wear shoes.  Take a quick second to be thankful that (if you’re like me) you’ve got several pairs (ok…many pairs) in your closet!  Leave a comment and tell me what your favorite pair of shoes are!

Today, I want to share a subscription site where you can get shoes.  I KNOW WHAT YOU’RE THINKING!  Subscription sites are horrible because they make you sign up and then you have to cancel your monthly purchase if you don’t want it and that’s just too much like work.  I agree, but I was signed up with a subscription site for a long time and it really wasn’t that bad.  I actually enjoyed it and you might, too.

The site that I was signed up with was JustFabulous (I know, big surprise, right!)

Here’s how it worked.  I had to register for an account and register my credit card/debit card.  Then, I took a fashion personality quiz to determine what shoes I would like best.  Each month, I got an email with a selection of shoes and handbags that I could choose from.  The shoes were always $39.95 and so were the handbags-with free shipping.  I’m sad to say I never actually bought anything from them.  This is because most of the shoes that they sent to me were sky high heels and I just don’t wear those.  The heels were beautiful and if I wore them, I would have bought a pair every month!  I never liked any of the handbags.  It was always very easy for me to skip my purchase each month and it was very easy for me to cancel my membership.

Just something for you to think about-$39.95 is a great price for a pair of shoes!  Let me know if you give it a try and find something fabulous!  Hope your weekend is full of wonder and amazement!

Get This Look: Pippa Middleton

So, Pippa called me and said she was tired of me always featuring Kate in my blog and never her.  I decided she was right, so today I’m featuring an outfit I saw her in!  (Wink, wink!)

The blue blazer she was wearing is from Zara.  Unfortunately, that blue blazer has completely sold out.  But here’s a blue blazer from Zara that’s similar:

Zara blazer

This blazer is a little high in price for me.  Not terrible, but not exactly budget friendly.  I’m going to give you some budget friendly alternatives if you’d like to add this look to your wardrobe.  Let me know if there are any celebrities in particular that you would like to see featured here.  Happy shopping, you lovely people!

Trend Alert: Color Blocking

This trend reminds me SO much of the 80’s!  I like to think the current trend is a little more sophisticated, though.  Color blocking is actually VERY easy-so don’t be intimidated by this!  Basically, you only have to put at least two different colors together.  If you want to get really complicated, you can put three colors together.  See-easy as pie!  You can even cheat and buy something that’s already color blocked for you!

All you have to do is throw two or three different colors together.  And they don’t have to be really bold colors.  They can be neutral colors or even classic black and white!  You can even use accessories like jewelry, purses and shoes for your color blocking.  If you need a little help, here are some examples of colors that go well together:

  • Navy blue with yellow
  • Pink or peach with brown
  • Purple with teal
  • Blue with white or ivory
  • Tangerine with grey

This is a fun and easy trend, so try it out and make it fabulous!  Here are some items that would be great for color blocking at budget friendly prices!  Have fun shopping!

Wardrobe Essentials: Brooch

What a crazy, wild ride this thing called life can be!  This may sound corny, but I think it’s so important to make a list-either physical or mental-about the blessings in your life from time to time.  Sometimes we’re too busy feeling sorry for ourselves to realize how good we really have it.  And I want to add all my blog readers onto my list of blessings!  Thank you just for being you!

What are the classic items that you can add to your wardrobe that will never go out of style?  What are timeless pieces that add style and class after fashion fades?  That’s right…it’s time to talk about another essential piece you should add to your wardrobe.   Brooches!  I think brooches are jewelry’s best kept secret.  They are so versatile but very few people give them a chance!  Don’t just think about wearing them as a pin on a top or a blazer.  You can use them on scarves, decorate purses with them and put them on necklaces!  Just use your imagination and think outside the box!

Here are some of my favorite brooches to inspire you today!

So delicate it almost looks real!

Love the vintage look!

Ocean breezes are calling your name!

Juicy Couture bling

Love the grey pearls!

Fabulous Friday

Have you ever heard of Modnique?  If you have or haven’t, let me give you a quick run down about Modnique.  This is a shopping site where you can find designer brands for discount prices.  You have to register on the website to be able to shop.  They don’t have an app for your cell phone but they do have a mobile shopping site.  Here are just a few examples of brands I have seen on Modnique: pre-owned Rolex, pre-owned Louis Vuitton, Ed Hardy, Michael Kors.

What I like about Modnique is that they have a nice selection of items at budget friendly prices.  They feature a “Deal of the Day” every day with a spectacular bargain-usually on a piece of jewelry.  They also have a “make an offer” feature where right before a sale on something ends, they give you an option to make an offer.  They usually only accept offers that are about $5-10 lower but that still saves you some money!  What I don’t like is that the shipping takes FOREVER.  I’ve never had a problem getting my items but it just takes a long time.  I have returned something to Modnique because it didn’t fit and the return process was very smooth.

Here are some examples of items and prices you can find on Modnique.  Make it a fabulous weekend!

Daily Deal for today-$11

Crystal bracelet-$14

Foldable flats-$15

Pre-Loved Louis Vuitton Bag-$559

Lace trim sequin top-$29 and you can make an offer!

For my Disney Lovers

I confess-I’m a hopeless Disney addict! I have been my whole life and I’ve infected my whole family! Since life is hard, I like to PLAY just as hard. Disney transports me to a place where people actually care about you, where people aren’t afraid to have fun, where laughter is encouraged and where magic really does happen.

Singing with pirates at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. ARRRR!

Dooney & Bourke was selected by Disney to do a line of purses and wristlets for them. I own one of the wristlets and love it! Each purse or wristlet is kind of like a snowflake-even though they may have the same pattern, each pattern is different in subtle ways. I like this uniqueness. It’s time to unleash your inner child and let the fun, quirky side of your personality show with these purses and wristlets. Click on the pictures for more information. Don’t be afraid to laugh today!

Get This Look: Kate Middleton

OK-I found out why Kate Middleton always looks spectacular. Besides the fact that she can buy anything she wants and has a personal trainer!  She worked for a brief period of time as an assistant accessories buyer for Jigsaw-a fashion retailer in England.  The girl has had experience with fashion and keeping up with trends.  I love how she goes for a classy look but always manages to throw in some pizzazz.  Just as a side note, I went shopping at H&M this past weekend and they had mint green and tangerine skinny jeans for $13.95!!!!  SCORE!

Here are some budget friendly ideas if you would like to add this look to your wardrobe.  Have fun!
