Fabulous Friday!

So, what do you think?  Was the Target/Neiman Marcus collection an epic fail?  If you’ve read any of the current articles, that seems to be the overwhelming opinion.  I have to be honest, I’m really disappointed in all the criticism.

Yes, the majority of the collection was out of touch with what shoppers want BUT I still believe in the idea behind the collaboration.  I think that designers should be available to everyone.  Unfortunately, we live in a society that still believes it’s fun that only a small percentage of people can afford big name designers.  One blogger posted that the fun about Neiman Marcus is that it’s not obtainable to the average person.  Do we really still believe that garbage?  Owning designer items should be about creating a style that’s unique to you.  It should NOT be about flaunting or bragging that you’re wearing designer items just because they cost a lot of money.  To quote Yves Saint-Laurent, ““Over the years, I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.”

I was disappointed that the two Tory Burch items in the collection were a lunch box and thermos instead of a pair of shoes and a purse.  However, there are a lot of people taking really cute Tory Burch lunch boxes to work right now that might never own another Tory Burch item in their life.  And even if most consider this an epic fail, I consider it a success that Target tried to make the unobtainable obtainable to people like you and me.  In this new year, I feel it’s all about shopping smart and finding deals instead of throwing your money away paying retail prices.  I can’t wait to see Target’s next collaboration with Prabal Gurung in February.

The Neiman Marcus collection is currently 70% off!  You can shop online here.
