High Prices At Consignment Stores

Well, Vacation Bible School is over (for the most part.)  I had such an amazing time and so much fun.  Unfortunately, the down side is that I am beyond exhausted.  As a result, I decided to do something a little different this Monday.  Let’s discuss a subject I read about over the weekend.

I read an article that talked about rising prices at thrift stores-specifically at Goodwill.  The article stated that many people believe that because thrifting has become more popular, thrift stores have started marking up their prices.  I haven’t found a good local thrift store in my area, so I can’t really comment on the prices.  Don’t worry, though, I haven’t given up.  I just haven’t had time to explore some thrift stores that have been recommended to me.   How about my fellow readers out there?  Has anyone experienced a rise in prices at thrift stores?

What I have experienced is a rise in prices at my local consignment store.  Most of this has to do with the fact that they have started getting in more high-end designer labels.  That’s great, but I go to my local consignment store to find a good bargain.  I just don’t consider items in the $10o to $200 range to be a good bargain.  Yes, if it’s a nice pair of Christian Louboutins, that’s a great deal.  Most of the time, I’m looking for something specific like a nice shirt for work or a cute summer dress.  If I wanted to pay $100, I could go out and find all kinds of brand new items for that!  I’m finding that more and more of the items in the shop are just too much for me to consider.  When I’m looking to buy something, I always think what else I can get for that amount of money.  If I can’t really think of anything, I know I’ve found a good deal.  If I can think of several brand new items I could get for the same amount, I know it’s not a deal.

How does everyone else out there feel about this?

Great post… as for me; I haven’t totally given up on thrift store shopping; but I have noticed prices going up and up and up…. so I do not frequent them as often as I have in the past. I just don’t find the bargains.
